The NCWW was founded in 1972 by two-time Nebula Award winner Ed Bryant, and is comprised of professional and near-professional authors who write mostly in the science fiction, fantasy, horror, thriller, or mystery genres. As the name suggests, the NCWW is a writers' workshop: a place writers come together with their works in progress to make them stronger -- by searing them in the crucible of sometimes witty, usually diplomatic, but always sharp peer opinion.

Though a small group, past and present members count among them dozens of major awards (Hugos, Nebulas, World Fantasy Awards, Stokers, etc.) and dozens more finalist nominations.

Membership is by invitation only and with a waiting list, but you're welcome to apply if you're a professional or near-professional author (e.g., getting personal rejections from professional markets) and are within driving distance of the Denver metro area. Contact the NCWW Grand PoohBah at ncww_poohbah @ ncww.org/public for information.

If you're otherwise looking for a workshop, check out Critters, an Internet-based writers' workshop with thousands of members worldwide, or the CritFinder, a resource to find or announce a local workshop (both sites founded & run by the NCWW's Andrew Burt).
